Devicare collaborates with the Catalan Association of Hereditary Metabolic Disorders

Barcelona’s footballer Luis Suarez is sponsoring the 12th edition of the “Relats solidaris de l’esport”. This book is a non-profit solidary initiative of a group of journalists to raise financial resources to charitable causes and can be purchased at the bookstore of El Corte Inglés for only 10 €. At the present edition the money raised from the sales of this solidarity book will go to the Catalan Association of Hereditary Metabolic Disorders, who will allocate the funds for the PKU research.

Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a hereditary disease that involves a metabolic disorder caused by a deficiency or absence of an enzyme called phenylalanine hydroxylase. Those affected are unable to metabolize phenylalanine, a micro-nutrient present in any conventional diet. As a result, phenylalanine accumulates in the blood, causing brain damage.

Devicare and the Catalan Association of Hereditary Metabolic Disorders have been collaborating for a year in the development of a medical device for self-monitoring of PKU and other metabolic disorders.

This joint initiative will help PKU patients and their families to have a better quality of life, and Devicare is very proud to collaborate in such initiative.
