METIOFITINA® is the association of L-methionine, a urine pH acidifier, and phytate, to reduce the concentration of iron in urine. This specific combination of ingredients improves antibiotic activity by increasing the concentration of the antibiotic in the urine and promoting its bioactive chemical form, in particular for the following antibiotics: Tetracycline, Doxycycline, Cefotaxime, Cephalothin, Cephalothin, Cefazolin, Ceftazidime, Piperacillin, Ampicillin, Nitrofurantoin, Fosfomycin and Methenamine hippurate.
Infection and bacteriuria are associated with neutral to alkaline pH which impairs the efficacy of certain antibiotics. Methiophytin® promotes the production of low pH urine, improves the efficacy of acidophilic antibiotics and reduces the generation of antibiotic resistance. Phytates make uropathogens more sensitive by iron chelation, which is an essential nutrient for their survival and proliferation.
