Metiofitina is the association of L-methionine, an acidifier of the urine pH, and phytate, a powerful inhibitor of calcium salts crystallisation. This specific association of ingredients allows to enhance antibiotic activity through a higher urine concentration of antibiotic and promoting its bioactive chemical form, particularly: fosfomycin, ampicillin, cefalosporin, nitrofurantoin, doxycicline, methenamine-hippurate salt. Infection and bacteriuria are associated with neutral to alkaline urine pH impairing antibiotic efficacy. This specific association of ingredients allows to enhance antibiotic activity through a higher urine concentration of antibiotic and promoting its bioactive chemical form, particularly: quinolones, erythromycin, or trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole.
