| First of all, I would like to thank Devicare and Dr Emiliani's STONE News for allowing us to keep abreast of the latest developments in lithiasis and metabolism, which are an important part of our consultations. In addition, Devicare products help to improve the treatment and the lives of our patients.
Today it is our turn to talk about the National Urology Congress, which will take place from 12 to 14 June at the Palacio de Congresos in Palma, Mallorca, with a programme full of updates for urologists, which I believe is the most interesting in the field of lithiasis and endourology.

Dr. F. Grases Freixades, Director of the Laboratory for the Study of Renal Lithiasis and the Institute for Research in the Health Sciences (IUNICS) of the University of the Illes Balears, gave us an overview of the main characteristics of lithogenic urine and summarised the new techniques for studying stones, such as the morpho-composition study of kidney stones, which is the key to obtaining personalised aetiological information. He also showed us a new study unit with a simplified electron microscope for the study of lithiasis in the laboratory. In addition, Dr Félix Grases was honoured at an inaugural ceremony, and he received a diploma making him an honorary member of the Spanish Urological Association, in recognition of his long scientific career and his valuable contribution to Spanish urology. |

Later, Dr Gutierrez Aceves from Wake Forest University in North Carolina gave us an introduction to ureteral suction sheaths for the treatment of renal lithiasis, how they improve operative times and, above all, allow treatment at low pressure, which will allow the treatment of larger lithiasis by retrograde route. |

In the poster sessions, several interesting papers were presented on surgery and lithiasis-free rates, but I would like to highlight the work of the Hospital Universitario Virgen de Valme, presented by Romero Orta, on the changes in the basal metabolic studies of lithiasis patients in the area of influence of this hospital in Seville, showing differences according to sex and age. |
